Christmas itself is really about a big present that God gave the world about 2000 years ago – Jesus! One of the most famous Bible verses, John 3:16, says: ‘God loved the world so much, that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him may not be lost but have eternal life.’.

All over the world, families and friends give presents to each other. Most children around the world believe in a Christmas gift bringer. It’s often St. Nicholas, Santa Claus or Father Christmas, but in parts of Germany they believe that it is the Christkind, in Spain they believe it is the Wise Men and in parts of Italy they believe it is an old lady called Befana.

For Oscar Wanje in Ganda Ward of Kilifi County, his actions of giving during this season is just reminding us that our celebration of Christmas should also be a reflection of the love and selflessness taught by the Savior. Giving, not getting, brings the full joy of Christmas.

We feel more kindly towards others. We reach out in love to help those less fortunate. Our hearts are softened, enemies forgiven, friends remembered and God obeyed. May we give as the Savior gave. To give of oneself is a holy gift. We give as a remembrance of all that the Savior had given.

On Saturday, Hon. Oscar Wanje and team celebrated the birth of Jesus (Christmas) in style as the team’s Christmas caravan brought cheer to the less fortunate across Ganda ward.

Leading the team, Hon. Oscar Wanje equally distributed 500kgs of Long Grain Biriani rice and 250Ltrs of Pure refined Cooking oil to the society in all Ganda Sublocations: Mere, Ganda, Msabaha and Kijiwetanga Sub Location with an aim of reaching out to the less vulnerable in the community with his kind heart and the assignment being sparking and putting a smile on every one during this season. The incoming Ganda Ward MCA has proven to be caring and giving.

There is also something special about children’s anticipation and hope during this time of year.

It is better to give than receive. We hear it all the time—especially this time of year. But sometimes I wonder if we really believe it.

The accumulation of possessions offers only short-term pleasure that fades quickly. On the other hand, generosity and giving offers a long lasting happiness, purpose, and fulfillment. It is better to give than receive.

And the stakes only get higher when we consider the themes of Christmas.Christmas, you see, is far more than pretty presents under a tree.Christmas is a celebration of love and joy and peace.

These are the greatest gifts we can ever give. But they are often the most difficult—especially if we have not received them from others.
