Last year, Chaduchinews Correspondent penned an article titled ‘Being Number Two in Kenyan Politics: The Debacle of Uhuruto and The Politics of Cain and Abel. This article is a build up from that article:

BEING NUMBER TWO IN KENYAN POLITICS: THE DEBACLE OF ‘UHURUTO’ AND THE POLITICS OF CAIN AND ABEL !

In this piece, the correspondent followed the history of William Ruto right from the days of YK2 to Kenya’s Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya. Indeed it is a politically exciting and sometimes painful journey. The article appreciated some trails of history which revealed that Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto have been political allies for more than a decade. Both have been members of the same party, the Kenya African National Union (KANU), for more than a decade, the longest they have stayed in one political home.

The article also acknowledged that both Uhuru and Ruto made their first attempt at elective politics in 1997, while still members of KANU, which by then had lost significant public support and had governed the country for 34 years. Ruto won on his first attempt to be elected the representative of Eldoret North constituency at the National Assembly. He emerged victorious, despite then President Daniel Arap Moi initially backing another candidate who had represented the constituency for several terms before 1997. Ruto has been re-elected since and still represents Eldoret North in the National Assembly. Kenyatta, for his part, failed in his first attempt at parliamentary politics in 1997. His failure was big news because his father, who was Kenya’s first president, had represented the constituency he sought to represent.

Once the ICC prosecutor named them as suspects in December 2010, Kenyatta and Ruto have sought to frame their fate as an international conspiracy to stop them running for president. This stems in part from the fact that in 2007 Kenyatta declared that as KANU leader he was setting aside his presidential ambitions in support of President Mwai Kibaki’s re-election bid. This implied he would run in the next scheduled election. Similarly, Ruto contested and lost the nomination as presidential candidate for the Orange Democratic Movement party, which Prime Minister Raila Odinga secured in 2007. Since that time, Ruto was expected to declare again his intention to run for the presidency when the next election drew close.

In the lead-up to their April 2011 initial appearance at the ICC, the two held what became known as prayer rallies around the country during which different religious leaders prayed for them. However, the rallies were more than just occasions for prayer. Kenyatta and Ruto together with their allies used the rallies to challenge the ICC cases. On return, they toned down their rhetoric but continued to work together.

When the ICC confirmed the charges against them in January this year, they both followed the same strategy. They went to their respective ethnic groups’ elites to seek their endorsement as presidential aspirants and also got them to commit to a signature campaign to pressure the ICC to schedule the trials after the elections. When in July the court scheduled the trial to a month after Kenya’s election, that subject was dropped and Kenyatta and Ruto concentrated on consolidating the support of their ethnic groups and building their new parties, culminating in a political alliance that was formally announced in Nakuru on December 2, 2012. That alliance has entered some turbulence since, but it seems Kenyatta and Ruto knew that they were going to stick together and present a joint ticket come voting day of March 4, 2013.

Now come the UhuRuto Administration under the Jubilee Party that has triumphed for almost 9 years. Aware that the 2017 presidential elections were hotly contested pitting incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta against Raila Odinga, IEBC declaration of presidential results was received with mixed reaction. Uhuru’s side celebrated while Raila’s side protested by a filling a petition that was upheld by the Supreme Court Judges led by former Chief Justice David Maraga. A repeat election or a run-off was called and Raila’s side boycotted. Instead they went to the streets demanding electoral justice. This made Kenya almost ungovernable and the consequences were severe to country’s growth and the economy.

To reverse this after pressure for the two sides to dialogue, Uhuru and Raila met at Uhuru’s Harambee House Office- a meeting that resulted into handshake symbolizing a political settlement, normalcy, peace and harmony as well a new yet unique political environment. Once a sworn enemy of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila is now toasting to new beginnings — enjoying the trappings (and reality) of state power and having a larger-than-life public stature. Raila’s bromance with Uhuru has eclipsed other key opposition leaders, including  Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya). Raila has over the decades exploited the ‘handshake’ — ordinarily a gesture of friendship — with political rivals to re-engineer and rebrand himself.

Ruto too appears isolated from the centre of power. Even without any official position, Raila is calling some of the shots in government. This has not gone well with Ruto and his allies. Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen questioned the manner in which Raila is treated in the current government while at the same time his boss Ruto being mistreated. This was after Raila was airlifted to Kisumu by an Airfoce One Chopper.

May be an image of 1 person and text that says ""We want to know under which capacity in the kenyan constitution is the Former prime minister keeps on using military aircratt and state machineries which dp ruto is dennied access to?" Murkomen"

The Uhuru’s trip to Nyanza has brought silent intrigues in the JUbilee Administration deepening the woes between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto. While Raila and his allies are celebrating the development goodies taken to Nyanza – a region known to have been sidelined for decades following opposition led politics made possible by the regional leaders beginning with the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. The Head of Digital Communication Dennis Itumbi was quoted in his Facebook account posed very serious questions suspecting Uhuru’s trip as part of the strategies by Uhuru and Raila to scheme for 2022 presidential succession!

The Hustler Nation Intelligence Bureau ( HNIB) agents have filed a serious report from the Luo Nyanza leaders meeting held at State House on Friday 28th, May 2021.We therefore pose the following Questions to State House.HNIB is aware they will most likely ignore, but….If You know, You know…1. Did former PM Raila Odinga address the meeting and complain that the Courts were making decisions that were tantamount to interfering with the Executive? He spoke, just before inviting the President to speak.2. In Response, Did President Uhuru say that he would NOT obey Court orders that were slowing down his vision?3. Did he say, “I will not obey the BBI Court orders. After all where will they find me so as to serve me?”4. Did he add, “I started by ignoring the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) orders and nothing happened…. I was testing what happens if You disobey court orders. KMC business is going on, the court can rule and make orders but we continue…” ?5. Did The President then tell SC Orengo and team to do all what they can, but either way he will NOT obey the resultant Court orders?6. Did The President say he would NOT hand over power to WsR even if he wins the Election? (NB: Point of note, the Constitution does not speak of Handing over power. It only provides that a New President will be sworn in. Even Trump skipped Biden’s Inauguration, Biden is President.)6. Did the The President then say he does NOT believe in the Bottom-Up Economic Model. That It cannot work. Only Top-Down will work? HNIB knows you may not answer the simple questions. We therefore Declassify the questions In 24 hours, if there is no answer….Aware of that obvious eventuality, HNIB advises consumers of its information, that on the 25th hour, all the Questions automatically become RHETORIC. Hustlers are everywhere. Have a Great Week.

After decades of forsake, Kisumu and the larger Luo Nyanza is reaping big from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee administration with the launch of mega projects and commissioning of others courtesy of the handshake. President Kenyata flew to the lakeside city on Sunday, where he was joined by his handshake partner former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, ahead of Madaraka Day celebrations. And apart from the infrastructural development like roads which the president started launching on Sunday, his tour of the city brought joy to many, with an economic boom recorded in the hospitality industry!

Chaduchi News will follow up closely the post -Kisumu development in the political context!
